Paper Skirt

I constructed the skirt increasing in the dimensions of the folded rectangles as it moved up towards my body. The layers and different sizes of rectangles allowed the skirt to have a mesmerizing movement as I swayed my hips back and forth or did a twirl.
This paper skirt was my first completed paper garment. After my “body extension” project, I wanted to continue to challenge myself to make wearable paper clothes.
The photography explores how the piece interacts with different environments - in a studio it looks more stiff and sculptural, while outside and on my body it looks like an elaborate garment with fluid movement.
This project served as a prototype for my full collection of paper dresses.
